Master of Pharmacy or M.Pharm is a 2 year post graduate course in Pharmacy where a pharmacy graduate can do his/her specialization in various departments like Pharmacology, Pharmaceutics, Pharmaceutical Analysis, Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Pharmacy Practice, etc. The post graduates of pharmacy are highly skilled and well trained pharmacy professionals who can practice their profession clinically as well as in industries and also in academics both in government and private sectors within India or in any other country.
In most of the foreign countries, for practicing pharmacy profession, a student should undergo his/her course with minimum of five year duration. Since post graduates have 4+2 years course duration, they are eligible in many countries for practicing the pharmacy profession. Post-graduation is must for pharmacy professionals to reach to top position in their corresponding departments and also there is a lot of scope for serving the society with professional satisfaction.
The entire course of study is for two academic years with two semesters in the first year followed by project work in the second year. Student’s overall performance is evaluated by conducting internal and external examinations both in theory and practical. A student shall be eligible to appear for University examinations if he/she acquires a minimum of 75% of attendance in aggregate of all the subjects in a semester. For qualifying in a subject, one has to secure a minimum of 40% marks in that subject. In each semester of the first year, each student has to give seminar on his/her research or review work on a specific topic. In the second year, student has to perform a project in industry or within their institution. During his/her project period, student has to present timely report and seminar on his/her project status. Finally he/she has to present seminar and attend for the viva-voice on their dissertation. One who fulfills all the requirements within the time can be awarded M. Pharmacy degree.
Department of Pharmaceutics deals with formulation, manufacture, In-Vitro evaluation, Stability and effectiveness of pharmaceutical dosage forms. This department provides skillful theoretical and practical knowledge to our students. Aim of this department is to make the students to understand the concepts behind formulating the dosage forms. Spacious laboratories with fully equipped equipment, Internet facilities support oneself to carryout research activities in the department
Department of Pharmacology involves in in-vitro & in-vivo evaluation of a molecule originated from plant, animal and synthetic origin. Well established animal house with strong ethical committee and with fully equipped laboratories leads our students/researchers to carry out their clinical research on various animal models. This department controls and restricts the use of various animals for insignificant work with the help of ethical committee. Therapeutic effectiveness, toxicology and dose fixing for a molecule/ drug substance are the important criteria of this department. Well established animal house, spacious laboratories, internet facilities and ethical committee are the important elements of department of pharmacology.
Pharmaceutical Analysis deals with the development of analytical methods to determine the quality and quantity of the pharmaceutical agents. Our research is focused into two strategic themes - Drug Discovery and analytical method development and validation for drugs. Department has equipped laboratories with sophisticated instruments/ equipments, audio-visual aids and internet facility to carryout academic and research activities.
Department of Pharmacy Practice helps in providing in-depth knowledge, clinical skills and responsibilities to our future leaders of health care profession. Pharm.D course was started in 2013 at Ratnam Institute of Pharmacy and linked up with department of Pharmacy practice in order to meet the growing needs and expectations of the patient, society and health care system at national and international level. Our students assist doctors, nurses, and fellow pharmacists of DSR General hospital, Nellore, Andhra Pradesh to optimize the effectiveness of treatment and to prevent diseases. Wide spectrum of activities like noticing adverse drug reactions (ADR), drug interactions, patient counseling, medical history view, ward round participation and maintaining drug information centre (DIC) are the important aspects of this department.
